By bike to the reservoirs

An exceptional network of marked cycling routes that connects nature with traces of mining history. In the area around the villages of Hodruša-Hámre and Banská Štiavnica, you will find routes of various lengths and difficulty levels – from family-friendly loops (e.g., the Kopanická Connector or Hell Loop) to more challenging mountain rides (e.g., Mikovíni’s Green Ride or the Large and Small Hodruša Loop).
The trails lead to water reservoirs (tajchy), across mountain passes, and along forest paths with beautiful views, with several starting directly at the Salamandra Resort.

Salamandra Ski Resort

A modern ski resort located in the Štiavnica Mountains, the southernmost in Slovakia. It offers a 1,400 m long intermediate ski slope suitable for families and beginners, serviced by a 4-seat chairlift (also used by hikers and cyclists in summer). The area includes a children’s lift, ski service, ski school, equipment rental, and groomed cross-country trails available in winter.

Historic Town of Banská Štiavnica (UNESCO)

The most beautiful historic mining town in Slovakia, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its narrow streets and well-preserved townhouses reflect its rich mining history; you can visit the Old and New Castle, the Mining Museum, the Calvary complex, and many other landmarks and curiosities.

Open-Air Mining Museum (Bartolomej Adit)

A unique mining museum both outdoors and underground. On the surface, you can see authentic mining buildings and machinery, but the biggest attraction is descending underground – entering the Bartolomej adit wearing a miner’s coat, helmet, and lamp. The 90-minute tour leads through original mining tunnels and vividly illustrates the work of miners deep beneath the Earth’s surface. It is the most visited exhibition in the region and is suitable for families (children approx. from 6 years old).

Počúvadlianske Lake (Počúvadlo)

The most popular tajch (historic water reservoir) in the Štiavnica Mountains, sought after for swimming and recreation. Around the lake you’ll find beaches, snack bars, and sports equipment rentals – you can enjoy boating, pedal boats, paddleboards, and great swimming on hot days. A path suitable even for strollers circles the lake, and the hike to Sitno begins here.

Svätý Anton Manor

A large Baroque-Classical manor with an English park, a national cultural monument open to the public. Inside, there is a museum with original aristocratic interiors and a unique hunting exhibition – the tour presents the historical lifestyle of the nobility and the development of forestry and hunting in Slovakia.

Revištské Podzámčie Wildlife Park

A large natural area with animals (21 ha, over 30 species) set in a fairy-tale-like environment – featuring a pond, waterfall, and meadows perfect for picnics. A unique attraction is the breeding of marsh moose (the first in Slovakia) alongside many other domestic and exotic animals. Children will enjoy the petting mini-zoo, animal feedings, playgrounds, and trampolines.

Vyhne Water Paradise (Thermal Spa)

Outdoor thermal baths, ideal for relaxation in every season. The complex features several pools with geothermal mineral-rich water – swimming pool, children’s pool, leisure pool, and a multipurpose pool with healing water (temperature approx. 30–36 °C). There is also a waterslide and an extensive wellness center (massages, saunas). In winter, a heated indoor pool with an outdoor outlet is available, and in summer you can enjoy the outdoor pools amidst the beautiful nature of the Štiavnica Mountains.

Revište Castle (Ruins)

The ruins of the Gothic Revište Castle sit on a hill above the Hron River, accessible via an easy walk (~20 minutes from the parking lot), suitable for children as well. Thanks to ongoing conservation efforts, the area is relatively safe and accessible via viewing walkways. The castle hill offers impressive views over the Pohronie region and the surrounding landscape.

Sklené Teplice Spa (Parenica)

A traditional thermal spa in the valley of the Štiavnica Mountains, famous for its unique cave steam bath, Parenica. In a natural travertine cave with 42 °C thermal water, you can enjoy a restorative steam bath, one of Europe’s rarities. In addition to Parenica, the spa offers many other treatments (mineral pools, massages) and the historic Maria Theresa Bath.

Calvary Banská Štiavnica

A monumental Baroque calvary complex on the Scharffenberg hill, visible from all sides of the town. It consists of 24 chapels and 3 churches set in nature – one of the most impressive complexes of its kind in Europe. The calvary was built between 1744 and 1751 and, after extensive restoration, shines again in its original beauty.
